Tuesday morning

We were greeted with another cool, sunny morning. The red flags waving up and down the beach were our first hint of the massive waves crashing on the shore. Looks like another day of volleyball, boccé and corn toss games in the sand–and not too much in time in the gulf.

As always, the morning begins with 9 a.m. devotions. The distance runners are joining the rest of the team at the oval today. That'll make for a traffic control nightmare.

*notes on devos
Diemer opened Tuesday's devotions with a reading from Matthew 5:13-16, in which God calls us to be the salt and light of the Earth. A pretty common metaphor to many of us, we picked apart what it actually meant.

Christians are supposed to add flavor to the world. We're supposed to reveal truth. We should be standing out from the rest of the crowd. And, perhaps a little less obvious, we are supposed to be the ones who help the world 'taste and see that God is good.' Building off of Monday's devotions we were reminded how every Christian has an impact, thus we must consider if we as Christians are adding a good taste and clear picture to Christ's name.

We are all called to have a good impact. However, sin came along and messed everything up. Thus, everyone screws up. However, through a reading of Luke 3:7-9, we were reminded that we are able produce good 'fruit in keeping with repentance.' Thus, through trying to keep
within God's statutes and repenting when we stray from them, we can exude bits of God's perfect holiness. It was noted also that this is accomplished only by setting our hearts on him and communing with him regularly.

The morning ended with reading the second verse from the song "Take Time To Be Holy" in which it says:
Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret with Jesus alone;
By looking to Jesus, like Him though shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.
