Friday

We'll be heading north tomorrow morning. Coach Otte will lead devotions at 8 a.m. and then everyone will pack-up and clean their condos before the 11 a.m. green flag.

Another tradition ... one that builds community among the one hundred of us in a different way ... is breaking bread together with the Condo Dinners.

For example ... Condo #1407 had dinner(s) with #901, #507, #709, #906, and coach Otte's family.

Thursday

Loads of lightning ended practice early today.

On the plus side, the shortened training time gave everyone time to practice their acts for tonight's talent show and make desserts for the after-party.
Throwers lunch at the age old Calvin watering hole Papa Rocco's.

As usual, the annual talent show was a showcase of reformed humor with the performers walking the thin line of taste while demonstrating little, if any, talent. Really, the show was a riot. It's times like this, with one hundred Calvin folks laughing at themselves in a meaningful way, that makes one understand how wonderful the Calvin student body, and therefore the alumni, are. We are truely blessed.
60 Seconds of the Titanic
The wildly popular ballroom dancing club made a showing in Gulf Shores. Coach Al Hoekstra was,"Glad no one broke their neck."

The post-show dessert bash was a crowded affair in the parking garage with a dozen or so sweet dishes and one shark fetus ... just a little edgy.

Wednesday

The morning began with clear skies. During training the clouds rolled in from the gulf ... 70˚ and overcast is great for practice.

Off to Lambert's Cafe for dinner with all one-hundred of us.

Tuesday

Hurrah for the sunny skies!

Morning devos went off as usual on the beach.
We just returned from the longest track session we've ever had in Gulf Shores. A solid fours hours at the track. While it has always been great to get outside to train during spring break; this season has a decidedly different feel to it. Because of the state of the art design and maintenance of Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex we've been training at a high level for months and the athletes are coming to Gulf Shores much more prepared for the outdoor season. The Calvin community's commitment to it's student body bears fruit daily.

Lots of dutch skin turning pink in the noonday sun.
After training we all hit the beach for bags, ultimate and volleyball.

Today's big event is this afternoon's 1st Year Games. Yesterday's blustery weather forced us to bump them from Monday's 4 p.m. start time.
